Balata Piatta

The oldest voices of the island tell of when in 1957 Raimondo Bucher, a freediver and pioneer of scuba diving asked fishermen to accompany him to the Balata Piatta area to study and photograph the columnar basalts of Linosa, blocks of polished and, according to the sub, non-natural stone, silent witnesses of the lost civilization of Atlantis. Those were times of a coming and going of people who discovered a rich and unexplored seabed, times of amazement in witnessing how much a person could stay underwater without re-emerging, times of a warm and generous welcome, unchanged over time in the same way as the square rocks of this point of the island to look for among the dirt paths and a solitary maritime pine that tells you this is exactly the place you were looking for.
